Understanding your options

What is a DMCA takedown request?

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) establishes a notice-and-takedown procedure for certain online copyright infringements in the United States. When someone posts a copyrighted photograph or other protected work without the appropriate permission, the copyright owner or an authorized agent may be able to send a compliant notice to the hosting provider or platform’s designated DMCA agent.

When applicable, that process can lead the service provider to remove the infringing material or disable access. A compliant notice is not a guaranteed deletion from the entire internet: providers may reject inadequate notices, exceptions such as fair use may apply, and the uploader may submit a counter-notification.

Our process

How FaceIndex can help, step by step

01

Tell us where the content appears

Send the page URL, describe the original work and where you believe it was copied. Do not email intimate images or sensitive identity documents.

02

We review your rights and options

We evaluate whether a copyright-based request may apply, whether you own or represent the rights, and what information the recipient needs.

03

Understand scope and fees

We explain the recommended route and offer an affordable case-specific quote before any paid assistance begins. You decide how to proceed.

04

Prepare and route the notice

For qualifying cases, we assist with drafting, identifying the appropriate reporting channel, and submitting through the authorized process.

05

Track responses and follow up

We can help interpret provider replies, follow up where appropriate, and discuss other lawful options if the first request is unsuccessful.

06

Plan ongoing protection

Where useful, we explain search, documentation and reporting methods to identify additional unauthorized copies of your work.

What kinds of situations may qualify?

Original photos copied without permission

DMCA notices generally address infringement of copyright—not every unwanted post. Examples that may qualify include:

  • An original photograph you took being copied onto another website without authorization.
  • Your copyrighted product photography or artwork being republished without permission.
  • Creator-owned promotional photographs uploaded by an impersonator.
  • Repeat copies of original copyrighted images across multiple hosting services.
Important distinction: Being pictured in a photograph does not necessarily mean you own its copyright. If you did not take the photo or obtain the rights, a DMCA notice might not be the appropriate route. FaceIndex can help you understand the alternatives, but we cannot claim copyright you do not own.

DMCA copyright removal — $29.95 per accepted request: For unauthorized copying of a photo, video, or other original copyrighted work when you own the copyright or are authorized to represent its owner. Merely appearing in an image does not necessarily make you its copyright owner.

Other content or identity removal — $49.95 per accepted case: For deepfakes, nonconsensual intimate imagery, impersonation, fake profiles, privacy violations, or other potentially actionable content. Different laws and platform rules apply.

No upfront charge. Tell us what happened; we will review eligibility and contact you with next steps. You pay only after we accept the case and you explicitly approve the quoted work. Neither acceptance nor payment guarantees removal; outcomes depend on the facts, platform policies, and applicable law.

Do not upload or submit intimate image files, identity documents, passwords, or other sensitive evidence in this initial form. We will arrange a secure follow-up if necessary.

Answers before you contact us

DMCA removal: frequently asked questions

Can a DMCA notice remove any photo or website?

No. DMCA notices are designed for qualifying copyright infringements and do not guarantee removal of any image or an entire website. Other legal or platform-reporting procedures may apply depending on the situation.

Do I need to own the copyright?

You generally must be the copyright owner or legally authorized to act for the owner. Merely appearing in a photo does not automatically grant copyright ownership.

How much does FaceIndex charge?

DMCA copyright requests start at $29.95 per accepted request; other eligible removal assistance starts at $49.95 per accepted case. Submit for free review first; no payment is collected unless we accept your case and you approve the proposed service.

How quickly will I hear back?

We prioritize DMCA removal inquiries and aim to get back to you promptly. Timing depends on the case and current support volume; we do not promise a specific response or takedown deadline.

What information should I send?

Provide your contact email, a link to the page with the content, a description of the original photo and your copyright ownership or authority to act. Please do not include passwords, sensitive identification, or intimate image files in the initial request.

Can a removed image come back?

Possibly. Uploaders can challenge some removals through counter-notices, and copies may appear elsewhere. We can discuss additional notices and lawful monitoring steps if needed.
